Family Court Commissioner

The Family Court Commissioner (FCC) conducts hearings and issues orders in divorce, legal separation and paternity cases.  There is one part-time assistant to the FCC who assists in answering questions about the process and procedures in family court.

Family court cases are challenging in many ways. Decisions made in court can have a lasting effect. Issues involving children might be reviewed in the future under certain circumstances. Some court orders might not be subject to legal review. Parties to a family court case should consider legal assistance. Your family case impacts your life, your family, and your future.

Regardless of whether an attorney is involved, disagreements about a case do not have to turn into ugly disputes. People can disagree in court and be civil. Civility is vital for couples with children. Respect for a child’s parent shows respect for the child. Civility and respect will assist in necessary communication concerning growing children. Parents will likely see each other for the rest of their lives. Your child will benefit from a good relationship between parents.
